La tierra sagrada está cubierta con los incontables cuerpos de sacerdotes y de la nobleza muertos por los ejércitos españoles bajo el mando de Cortés. El único sobreviviente de la masacre es Topiltzin, un joven indígena [Damián Delgado], que es el hijo ilegítimo del emperador azteca Moctezuma. Como el despertar de un sueño, él se levanta de entre los cadáveres para encontrar a su madre asesinada, al español al frente de todo y el amanecer de una nueva era en su tierra nativa.
La representación del nuevo orden es el fraile español Diego [José Carlos Rodríguez]. Su misión es convertir a los "salvajes” naturales en cristianos civilizados; para substituir sus sacrificios humanos y deidades emplumadas por bautizos públicos y lealtad a la bendecida Virgen María. Con Topiltzin, el fraile Diego hace frente a su desafío espiritual y personal más difícil.
El Viejo Mundo enfrenta el nuevo mientras que Topiltzin lucha para preservar su propia creencia, mientras que el fraile Diego intenta imponer las propias. Y sin embargo persiste la pregunta: ¿Quién está convirtiendo quién?

The sacred ground is cover with the countless bodies of priests and nobility slaughtered by the Spanish Armies under Cortés' command. The only survivor of the massacre is a young Indian named Topiltzin [Damián Delgado], who is the illegitimate son of the Aztec Emperor Moctezuma, As if awakening from a dream, the young man rises from among the dead to find his mother murdered, the Spanish in power and the dawn of a new era in his native land.
